Liverpool has officially announced the arrival of Darwin Nunez, as their No.9 for the 2023 24 season. The Uruguayan striker joins the club with expectations after a debut campaign.
Having secured Nunez for a club record fee of £85m Liverpool is eager to witness his continued growth and success. Although his performances were occasionally affected by Liverpool's struggle for consistency Nunez showcased moments of brilliance throughout the season.
"I'm absolutely delighted to don the number 9 jersey and I take pride in it ” Nunez expressed to the Liverpool website. “Many talented players have previously represented this number with distinction. Now it's my turn. I have a desire for everything to go well."
Nunez aims to uphold the legacy of his predecessors and hopes to contribute to Liverpool's triumphs for years to come. “I hope to carry it in a possible way just as the previous players did bringing joy to the club and its supporters ” he added.
In his season wearing the No.27 Nunez made 42 appearances across competitions scoring 15 goals and providing 4 assists. As Liverpool prepares to embark on their season camp, in Germany week Nunez will be joining them as they gear up for the upcoming season.
On Wednesday the Reds have a match, against Karlsruher before their game, against Greuter Furth, which is scheduled five days later.
